Quem explica é Andréa Brächer, doutora em Poéticas Visuais pela UFRGS. Segundo ela, buscava-se modificar o caráter documental que se estabelecera na Europa durante a segunda metade do século XIX. As primeiras manifestações ocorreram em Viena, Londres e Paris, a partir de 1890. Foi no início dos anos de 1900, no entanto, que o movimento nos Estados Unidos tomou força e ficou conhecido como Photo-Secession. Still de vídeo de Niura Borges&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A instalação interativa  &lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;Interfaces Digitais POA_VAL Laboratório_1&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; fez parte do projeto de pesquisa “Interfaces Digitais na Arte Contemporânea” (2006-2007) e foi indicada na categoria &lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;Mídias Tecnológicas&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; ao &lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;II Prêmio Açorianos de Artes Plásticas&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;. A proposta de criação artística coletiva é um &lt;em&gt;work in progress &lt;/em&gt;colocando em relação alguns cenários das duas cidades sede do projeto – Porto Alegre, Brasil e Valência, Espanha – para trazer à tona poéticas do cotidiano e aspectos urbanos em torno dos quais se organizam suas coletividades. A partir de tomadas fotográficas, edição e animação de imagens digitais, construiu-se oito panoramas interativos que propõem aos espectadores algumas descobertas sobre relações sociais, arquitetônicas e políticas que permeiam as duas cidades.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;O projeto foi concebido a partir de um acordo de cooperação internacional entre o Programa de Pós-Graduação em Artes Visuais da UFRGS e o Departamento de Escultura da Universidade Politécnica de Valência e coordenado no Brasil pela prof.a. Duas séries foram realizadas: a primeira em colódio úmido (cujos suportes são chapas de vidro transparente e chapas de alumínio de fundo preto) e a segunda em daguerreótipo (cujo suporte é chapa de cobre revestida de prata). Os longos períodos de exposição (em torno de 3 a 15 minutos, respectivamente) dos dois processos ensejaram-me a fotografar objetos parados, e distantes em função da distância focal da objetiva.&lt;br /&gt;Como nos primórdios da fotografia, esta “é (...) o desejo para uma conjunção impossível de transição e fixidez, uma simultaneidade visual do passageiro e do etéreo”&lt;a style="mso-footnote-id: ftn2" title="" href="http://www.blogger.com/post-create.g?blogID=7116794020715519452#_ftn2" name="_ftnref2"&gt;[2]&lt;/a&gt;. Os fantasmas são essa personificação do etéreo e sua fixidez foi colocada em xeque pelas possibilidades abertas pelo processamento. Se desejarmos, poderemos apagar as imagens presentes na superfície dos daguerreótipos, por exemplo, antes de sua fixação final. As múltiplas imagens em uma mesma chapa e/ou a transparência da pessoa fotografada remetem à iconografia do fantasma. O caráter fantasmático e a “aparição” já eram termos que descreviam minhas obras anteriores, como Blindness (longas exposições e imagens indistintas e transparentes, 2003) e Ilex Matetype (há um quase desaparecimento do referente causado pelo processo fotográfico, 2004). Em Fantasmas, essas características voltam a aparecer, todavia em outros processos e sob outra forma de captura – câmeras de médio e grande formato e longíssimas exposições.&lt;br /&gt;As imagens que constam como daguerreótipos, “original apagado”, passaram pelo processamento normal da técnica: polimento da chapa para se tornar um espelho, emulsionamento, captura da imagem e revelação. Após esse estágio e antes da fixação final, fotografei as imagens de forma digital. De acordo com que era uma “boa imagem”, ou apagávamos ou fixávamos as chapas. Os erros processuais foram as imagens mais instigantes: subexposições, superexposições, “véu branco” sobre a imagem, falhas de emulsionamento, falta de foco, desaparecimento completo do referente em vez de deixar alguma “marca” etérea de sua presença. De igual modo os erros sutis em uma chapa pequena (c. 8 x 10,5cm) ampliam-se nas cópias em papel algodão (impressas com tinta pigmentada de alta duração) – 84 x 110 cm.&lt;br /&gt;Numa chapa de prata, cerca de três a quatro apagamentos podem ser suportados. Da mesma forma, a chapa de vidro dos ambrótipos também pode suportar infinitos polimentos, imagens e apagamentos, enquanto o vidro estiver intacto. Tanto o daguerreótipo como os ambrótipos, nesse sentido, são palimpsestos.&lt;br /&gt;Entende-se, então, a analogia feita por Balzac ao considerar a câmera fotográfica um aparelho capaz de remover as camadas da alma do fotografado.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;"Todos os corpos físicos são formados totalmente por camadas de imagens fantasmagóricas, um número infinito de finas peles, postas umas sobre as outras. Balzac acreditava que o homem não podia fazer algo material de uma aparição, de alguma coisa impalpável – quer dizer, criar alguma coisa do nada – portanto, ele concluiu que toda vez que alguém era fotografado, uma de suas camadas espectrais era removida do seu corpo e transferida para a fotografia. A coletiva DESAPARECIMENTOS (eu mais André Grassi, Jussara Moreira e Thiago Carvalho-Fernandes) foi indicada a concorrer na categoria Fotografia. Bem, a escultura do Xico ainda não foi nossa. A cerimônia, como no ano anterior (quando também fui indicada na categoria Destaque em Fotografia pela exposição Individual Lilith) foi rápida, divertida e apresentou algumas surpresas ao serem revelados os ganhadores! A exposição reuniu 131 obras de 21 fotógrafos selecionados. Desde 2001, quando instituiu o prêmio, a Porto Seguro Seguros, estabeleceu um marco na valorização do patrimônio artístico cultural brasileiro. "O nível alto dos candidatos tornou bem difícil a escolha da comissão julgadora", naquele ano, atesta Cildo. Nomes consagrados da fotografia participaram das edições anteriores. Os trabalhos de Ilex Matetype são Phytotypes, cuja base para as emulsões eram flores coloridas, frutas silvestres ou pigmentos de plantas.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: #6fa8dc;"&gt;&lt;em&gt;The work presented in this exhibition were developed during the year 2003. Ilex Matetype were Phytotypes, whose basis for the emulsions were colorful flowers, berries and plant pigments.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Esse processo fotográfico, originalmente desenvolvido por John Herschel no início do ano de 1840, se baseia na fotossensibilidade dos vegetais. &lt;span style="color: #6fa8dc;"&gt;&lt;em&gt;This photographic process, originally developed by John Herschel in early 1840, is based on the photosensitivity of the vegetables. &lt;/em&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Embora bastante simples, a exposição ao sol -fonte de raios U.V.- é demorada e de difícil controle, podendo estender-se de horas a dias ou semanas, mesmo em pleno verão. No emulsionamento dos suporte -papéis para aquarela-, foi usada uma emulsão de erva-mate (Ilex Mate), o que originou Matetypes com tonalidades dentre o verde, o amarelo e o marrom. As graduações de tom variam conforme a graduação de cinzas do negativo preto-e-branco original e o clareamento causado pelo sol na emulsão. Todas as imagens forma produzidas no verão, conforme recomendação feita por John Herschel há mais de 160 anos. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: #6fa8dc;"&gt;&lt;em&gt;Although quite simple, the exposure to the sun - UV light - is consuming and difficult to control; can extend from hours to days or weeks, even in summer.
